Re: Brian Clough: I Believe in Miracles
Not all of Clough's players liked him, but this has not clouded their judgment.
Former Forest and Liverpool defender Larry Lloyd, who won two European Cups under Clough after being rescued from Coventry's reserves, once told his manager: 'If you walked into a pub I was drinking in, I would walk out.'
I played for Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley but, without doubt, Cloughie was the best,' says Lloyd.
'I can't remember ever having a tactical or coaching lesson from him, but as a football manager he was second to none. He made us feel invincible. Every time we ran out there we thought we would win.'

Yes it was a great day, odd being the day we were relegated but we were already relegated. Frankie's last game for us too and a great hatrick.

Re: Brian Clough: I Believe in Miracles
Yes when Frankie Mac scored a hatrick and we were relgated. I met Des too.
Walker did a lap of honour and we all stood and clapped and then invaded the pitch and exchanged scarves etc... With their fans in the South Bank and they sang "you'll be back again next year"

Another day that our fans made me proud. Think we've always had a mutual respect for eachother and never any bother.

13 B.RD, was you at Des Walker's last game in England before he went to Italy? we gave him a great ovation too. moments like that and the cloughie one make me proud

Re: Brian Clough: I Believe in Miracles
Used to live in Nottm for 20 years. Met him, John Robertson and a few Forest players and staff. Even said "hello young man" in true cloughie fashion/accent once to me which still makes me smile.
Very friendly and likeable would always have time for people, an ordinary man in many respects.
Also after he retired you could usually find him in his other son's Newsagents just sitting there chatting.

Absolute legend.

I even led our fans to stand up and join in the "stand up if you love cloughie" song tribute at Forest when we played them the game after he died. Was proud of our fans that day.

The greatest. To do what he did with Forest (and after doing what he did with Derby) - beats anything the likes of Ferguson or Paisley or Shankly did.

"I'm more qualified than you...." "Shut up and show more football!"

Clough destroys the always-useless John Motson. On the other hand, I'm not surprised the media merry-go-round took its toll on him.

Favourite Clough quote: "I was 20 before I realised I was retarded." Good FOOTBALL man.

The icon is Polands "Clown" goalkeeper Tomachevski (=sp) as Brian Clough described him at half time as he sat on an experts panel on TV

England were banging on the door throughout the 2nd half failing to score as Tomachevski played an absolute blinder & got very lucky

England were knocked out of the WC qualifiers as they failed to score

Re: Brian Clough: I Believe in Miracles
I know its an old one and most people know it but, for me, it sums Clough up in one sentence.

When he was asked what he would do if a player said to him he knew a better way of doing something. Clough said "Well, we would sit down, talk about it, and then we would both decide that my way was best".

Classic. Legend.

If it is the "best football film ever made" it will have to be something special to beat The Damned United''

Agree with that. That film was the absolute bollocks.

Loved Clough, his drunken interviews were fucking hilarious.

Watch some clips of him playing - he was the dog's nuts. One of the best english players ever (him and pop robson), not a bad manager either.

Re: Brian Clough: I Believe in Miracles
Michael Sheen and Tim Spall were both brilliant in it and the Derby - Leeds evening game before Derby played in Europe was the best FICTIONAL representation of a match I've seen on film
